Zach Newman Added to Fredericton Royals Roster for Atlantic Championships

2012-08-22

Newman will bolster the Royals pitching staff and add a big bat to the lineup

Miramichi Cardinal player off to St. John's Newfoundland for next month's tourney.

Miramichi Pee Wee AAA Cardinals pitcher and first baseman Zach Newman will see his baseball season continue on for a little while longer despite the elimination of his squad at the recent NB Provincial Pee Wee Tournament in Quispamsis.

Shortly after the Provincial Tourney ended, the NB Champion Fredericton Royals wasted little time in approaching Newman to join their team for the upcoming Atlantic Pee Wee AAA Championship being held from September 5-10, 2012 in St. John's, Newfoundland. Other teams already confirmed for the tournament are the Moncton Cubs, Charlottetown Royals, Summerside Chevys, Grand Falls-Windsor, and the host St. John's Capitals. The two Nova Scotia representatives will be determined at their provincial tournament being held Aug 24-26.

As for the Fredericton Royals, one could say they made a wise decision with the addition of Newman to their roster. He had a stellar year for the Cardinals batting over .500 on the season and launching 8 home runs in the process. Batting 3rd in the Cardinals lineup for most of the season, Newman was a force to be reckoned with and not someone that opposing pitchers enjoyed facing.

In addition to his contributions at the plate, Zach was also dominant on the mound for Miramichi. The big lefthander averaged close to 12 strikeouts a game and was on the hill for several important games for the Cardinals this past season, including being the starting pitcher for both wins over the same Fredericton team he is joining.

Zach was a great leader for the Miramichi Cardinals this past season and an excellent teammate to others on the squad. Fredericton can only be stronger with Newman joining their team. We'd like to wish him all the best at the Atlantics. We will all be following his progress closely and cheering him on in his quest for an Atlantic Championship. Good luck Zach!
